I Feel Pretty…. Like A Beautiful Blogger…

I know this will shock you, but we are LONG overdue in expressing our gratitude to our fabulous friend at Fine Frugality… She nominated us as Beautiful Bloggers mid August.  And then school started….  That’s all I’ve got as an excuse, but with twins starting kindergarten, I’m going to forgive myself, so I hope she will forgive me as well.  We are both delighted to be awarded by our fabulous colleagues and we are both always impressed by the number of amazing people out there talking us through amazing feats in daily life.  We are grateful to be able to get to know (digitally at least) all of you.  So, according to the rules of these kinds of things we’re supposed to reveal something about ourselves and nominate some blogs for folks to recognize their awesomeness and to allow you to bask in their awesomeness as well.  Frankly, after a recent post, I think we’ve revealed just about enough of ourselves. I will reveal that Big Sis is an awesome sister and I am pleased as punch to be able to continue to do this project with her amazing self.

1. My Sweet and Savory – great recipes for those seeking healthier eating and she does a Meatless Monday link up if you’re looking to link up or looking for A LOT of meatless recipe ideas.
2. Vedged Out – Our fab friend Somer with all the info and flavors you need for a healthy plant-based lifestyle.
3. Kelly the Kitchen Kop – features real food recipes
4. The Conscientious Omnivore – thoughtful consideration of our food culture and food related issues
5. Cheeky Bums Blog – How could you not love it with that name?! And real food for families to boot!
6. Growing a Homestead – an inspiring chronicle of the TRUE construction of home
7. This Chick Cooks – more fabulous real food recipes!
8. The Peaceful Pantry – she makes split peas and apples work together.
9. Hey Beth Baker – rocks a healthy meal plan, for sure.
10. Life in the Slaw Lane – check out the greenhouse they built by hand. Awesomeness abounds.

While I love sharing my most recent bloggy finds, I hate leaving it at a short list. If you’re looking for more fab blogginess, please check out our blogroll and our other award posts. There is much in the way of beautiful blogging to be enjoyed. As always, we appreciate your time and attention, and we humbly admit that the compliments are awfully nice. Be well.

Versatile Bloggers? Us? Awww Shucks….

We are long overdue in our thanks to Tammy of The Nourished Seed for nominating our modest little enterprise for the Versatile Blogger Award.  Thanks so very much Tammy, and if you haven’t visited her, you should check out the amazing Soaking and Sprouting info she’s got. Or, if like me you feel the call of a chip type deal now and again, give these little delights a go… Wonderful stuff.

To accept our very flattering award, Big Sis and I must do the following:

  • Thank the person who gave you this award
  • Include a link to their blog
  • Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly
  • Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
  • Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself
  • In the same post, include this set of rules
  • Inform each nominated blogger of their nomination by posting a comment on each of their blogs

Okay, so here we go… there are so many wonderful bloggers out there and to be honest, we are often moved by the community that we have experienced on these blogs and through discussions on our own posts.  With that said, I’ll just highlight a few that we’ve discovered and really enjoyed more recently.

1. in pursuit of more
2. Attempting zero waste in a military household
3. HOMESTEADING downsized
4. gazing in
5. Leek Soup
6.Fine Frugality
7. mixmakegrow
8. Back Road Journal
9. Carin’s Blog
10. It’s Still Me
11. Teacher by Day, Chef by Night
12. my life and times
13. The Starving Artist
14. The Whole Beet
and FINALLY…
15. This Good Medicine

And now, for the big reveal… 7 things about us… Are you ready?
1. While Big Sis and I have both been professionally and personally required to function in the wee hours at times, she is from the half of the family that does so cheerfully and with commentary. I, on the other hand, am from the half that prefer to reserve words until all systems have been engaged. Cheeriness is also optional for my half.
2. While Big Sis is especially kind to all animals, and I like most of them, we are both decidedly dog people.
3. Between the two of us, I suspect we could at least mumble our way through at least 100 scores from musicals.
4. Apparently my Facebook posts can be a bit mysterious. Big Sis always knows what they mean.
5. We can both be counted on to dance with abandon given the right circumstances and some 1970s funk.
6. While I tend to be a cardio junkie, Big Sis always adds the weights, which is probably why she is freakishly strong.
7. I wish every sister could have a sister that she loves as much as I love mine.

So there you go…. a bucket of thanks and a whole slew of fab blogs to check out! Thanks for your readership and for the community and inspiration that you give us.
Peace,
Little Sis

Sharing the Kudos

Little Sis and I are having such fun writing this blog!  It truly adds to the fun when we think someone is enjoying our blog or is learning something from little ol’ us.  We certainly have learned a lot from our fellow bloggers.  So as our friend Anna at oceannah has nominated us for a Liebster award, we would like to thank her…

Thanks Anna!  It’s great getting to know you through your wonderful blog about organic gardening in NY!  Little Sis and I do love all the gardening help we can get : )

And per protocol we are going to share 5 interesting details about ourselves and also nominate 5 up and coming blogs to also receive a Liebster award.  Liebster means favorite and here are some of our favorite up and coming blogs (blogs with less than 20o followers).  We will post on their sites to let them know they’ve been nominated.

And our nominees are…

the imagination muscle which presents wonderful photos of gardens, art and life

What Would Happen If?…. a wonderful blog following one woman’s journey from lover of comfort food to locavore and making them overlap

Hippie Itch  wherein a woman chronicles her quest to include more yoga, tree-hugging, animal loving, and DIY projects in a life with a desk job

Healthy Family Quest is full of wonderful recipes and advice from a healthy, mindful, vegetarian family.

and New Home Economics – in the author’s words “New Home Economics is where saving money and reducing my carbon footprint meet.  This is my journal of my family’s attempts to improve the health of our bodies and our planet, on a budget.”

Please visit these sites as they all have wonderful things to share!

And as for our interesting tidbits:

1) I used to torture Little Sis in the car by SAYING the lyrics to “Where Have All the Flowers Gone” over and over and over.

2) Little Sis and I don’t look very much alike but have similar laughs and many of the same facial expressions and gestures.  Sometimes we say the same thing at the same time and then often simultaneously say, “That was spooky.”

3) We both have been classroom teachers, me in elementary special education and Little Sis at the high schol level both in an upscale suburban school and an urban school for kids in trouble.

4) I’m kind of gross – I’m a nurse and enjoy bodily fluid and noise jokes, whereas Little Sis often stops me from sharing stories… “Wait!  Do I need to know ALL the details of this?”

5) Little Sis knits beautiful things including the poncho I am wearing in my profile pic.  Maybe she’ll teach me someday ; )

That’s it for the Liebster Award post.  We’ll be back today or tomorrow with more on our sisterly adventures with food, health, and fighting the good fight against poisoned ‘food.’
